Stein mit Vollausstattung can be translated into something equal to “fully equiped stone”, and is a sculpture located in the middle of Dortmund city center. The stone is equipped with a windmill and solar panel that generates free electricity. This is lead into the stone and is made available to the public through electrical sockets and special charging stations for laptops and phones inside secure lockers in the stone. In addition, the electricity in the stone offers an open wireless network. In effect the archaic and unpolished stone works like an autonomous island offering people of the city both the possibility to surf the net and charge their phones, or other social uses like using a waffle iron and a sound system for a public gathering. The work questions public rights and access to the use of energy in urban areas.
